Trip
I
became a single parent when my son was 6
years-old, and not being able to afford a nanny,
or
willing to turn over the responsibility of
raising him to anyone else, I took him with me
everywhere
I went.
One
day, we took a trip to the local super market to
pick up some groceries for the week. He
was
at the age when I would encourage him to help me,
so I asked him to go over to the egg
counter
and pick out a dozen eggs. I watched from a short
distance as he gently lifted a box
from
the shelf and opened it. As I got closer, I could
see him pointing to each egg, and softly
counting
to himself, "...five, six, seven...."
